This was a project brought to me by the director of The Young Americans film department. They had hours and hours of this documentary style footage shot and he wanted to create a short film that was informational about their non-profit group, but also entertaining enough to keep people watching. He gave me a basic script for how he wanted the piece to flow, but from there it’s pretty much all my creation. I came up with multiple frame idea, so we could get across the most information in quick fashion. Because I got so ambitious with it, and had such a short time to create the film, it’s the most intense editing job I’ve ever had.

With Mark Peysha, (who also produces all my Tony Robbins work) I got a chance to create a full-length documentary about a very unique soul. The film was produced as a private piece for a 50th birthday party. The footage was shot by friends and family, Mark wrote the script and pieced together a rough cut of the film. My work was in tightening the film, laying in all the photos, and adding some pizzaz to the piece. Above, you can see my favorite scene from the project, where I got to cut some old college basketball footage to Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze”.

I was hired by Snap Capp to produce a short video to help sell their product, while also serving as an instructional video on how to use their new invention. This was made purely as a functional piece of video to get the ideas across, there’s nothing too creative about it. But it’s a good idea of what can be done on a micro-budget, it cost them around $100 to produce and has given them a good boost in business.

This was a project brought to me by my best friend, who is now the Chief of Police in Etna, California, the very small town we grew up in. They were putting together this program “Every 15 Minutes” where he and his fellow emergency services recreate a drunk driving accident at the local high school. They wanted the event documented.
It was a pretty intense experience, they laid these kids out to look like they’ve had a bad car accident. The police, firefighters, ambulance and even a helicopter all show up on the scene, and treat it like it’s a real event. The next day, they hold a funeral, and speak about what happened. I tried to convey the seriousness of it all through the film.

This is an example of a no-budget production. It was created solely from a voice-over, stock photos, backgrounds and music. If you don’t have the budget or time to shoot original video, this is the sort of video that is possible. It’s not that wonderfully creative or exciting, but it gets the message across, and sometimes that’s all a company wants.
